Liberty Hill, Texas

About this place

Liberty Hill sits in the Hill Country northwest of Austin, on the edge where suburb gives way to ranch country. It's grown fast in the last decade — new neighborhoods, new schools, new HEB — but the surrounding land is still mostly oak, cedar, and pasture, with the South San Gabriel River cutting through.

The pull is the in-between. You're 35-40 minutes from downtown Austin, but you wake up to deer in the yard. Lake Travis is 25 minutes south. The Hill Country wineries near Driftwood and Dripping Springs are 45 minutes. Round Rock and Cedar Park are next door for groceries and errands.

The town itself is small. There's a downtown with a few restaurants, a sculpture garden along the highway (an unusual local feature), and the kind of school spirit that fills a Friday-night football stadium. It's a good base if you want Austin in your reach but not in your face.
