Driftwood, Texas
Driftwood sits in the Hill Country between Austin and Wimberley. It's the kind of place where the road narrows, the cell signal thins out, and the live oaks take over. Cypress Creek runs through it. The land rolls. At night, the sky still does its work — Driftwood is part of a dark-sky-friendly community, and you can actually see the stars.
The town itself is small. There's barbecue at Salt Lick, wine at Duchman Family Winery and Driftwood Estate, and not much else trying to pull at you. That's the point. People come here to slow down — to sit on a porch, drink coffee while the deer pick through the cedar, drive into Wimberley for a swim at Blue Hole, and head back before dark.
It's a 30-minute drive into south Austin if you want music or a real meal in town, but most of our guests don't bother. The Hill Country does what cities can't: it gives you back your evenings.

Quick answers.
Is Driftwood walkable?
No. It's rural Hill Country — you'll want a car for everything beyond the property.
How dark is the sky, really?
Dark enough to see the Milky Way on clear nights. The community keeps outdoor lighting low.
Is Salt Lick worth the hype?
Yes, if you eat meat. Bring cash or card, and a cooler for leftovers. They're BYOB.
Can we get to Austin easily?
30-35 minutes to South Austin without traffic. Plan an hour at rush hour.
Are the swimming holes open year-round?
Jacob's Well and Blue Hole both require reservations and have seasonal swim windows — check the websites before you go.
Will we see wildlife?
Most likely deer, a lot of them. Maybe foxes, armadillos, owls at night. Snakes are around in warm months — watch where you step.
