The Best Coffee in Austin Is at Desnudo. Order the Miso Latte.

I'm going to go ahead and say it: Desnudo Coffee makes the best coffee in Austin.

You can argue with me. A lot of people will. Austin has a genuinely strong coffee scene — Spokesman, Palomino, Radio, Flat Track — and I like all of them. But when I think about the coffee shop I'd send someone to if they had one morning in Austin and wanted the best cup in the city, it's Desnudo on West 6th.

What Makes It Special

Desnudo started as a trailer in East Austin in 2022 with a clear goal: provide quality coffee in a space where everybody feels welcome. They've expanded to four locations, but the West 6th spot at 1214 W 6th St — inside West Market — is the one that earns the superlatives. It's a calm, focused shop in a building that also has fashion, books, and florals, which means the foot traffic is interesting and the energy is never chaotic. Good seating. Good light. And then the coffee.

The Miso Latte

Order it. It sounds unusual. It is unusual. It is exceptional. The miso adds a subtle umami depth to the espresso that you wouldn't expect to work — and then it really works. It's the kind of drink that makes you rethink what a latte can be, and it's become the thing I recommend to anyone who asks what to get here.

If miso lattes aren't your thing, the cortado is textbook and the cold brew is clean. But try the miso latte first. Approach it with an open mind.

Getting There

Get there early — there's always a line, especially on weekend mornings. It moves, and the wait is worth it, but plan accordingly. They open at 8 AM daily and close at 2:30 PM, so don't sleep in and expect afternoon coffee.
