Best breakfast tacos in Austin. Hands down. Don't argue with me on this one.

I know there are other contenders. I know people have strong feelings about Juan in a Million and Cisco's and a handful of trailers scattered across the East Side. I have strong feelings about those places too. But when someone asks me where to go for breakfast tacos in Austin — one place, no caveats — it's Veracruz All Natural, and I've never second-guessed that answer.

The Migas Taco

This is what you're here for. The migas taco at Veracruz is made with scrambled eggs, pico de gallo, cheese, and — critically — homemade tortilla chips that they fold in while everything is still hot. The chips stay crunchy inside the egg. That shouldn't be possible but it is, and it's the thing that separates these migas tacos from every other migas taco in the city. The New York Times has written about it. Business Insider put it in the top 50 breakfast tacos in the US. The Austin consensus — which is genuinely hard to achieve on matters of tacos — is that this is the benchmark.

How to Order

Get there early. There's a line, and it moves, but if you show up at 9 AM on a Saturday expecting no wait you're going to be disappointed. The line is worth it. Order the migas taco. Get a second one before you leave, because you will want one. If you want something else, the al pastor and the quesadillas are both excellent — but start with the migas.

Multiple Locations, One Standard

Veracruz has expanded to seven locations across Austin and Round Rock, and they've maintained consistency across all of them. The Cesar Chavez location at 111 E Cesar Chavez is the one closest to most of our Austin properties. Wherever you end up, you're getting the same migas taco that built the reputation.
