Sanger, Texas

About this place

Sanger is a small North Texas town just off I-35 between Denton and Gainesville. The freeway moves around it; the town itself stays slow. There's a courthouse-adjacent downtown with a couple of restaurants, the old railroad depot, and a feed store that's still in business.

The reason people come here is Lake Ray Roberts — 29,000 acres of water spread across three counties, with quiet coves, sand beaches, and some of the best bass fishing in the state. Ray Roberts State Park has campsites, equestrian trails, and the kind of shoreline that doesn't get crowded outside summer holiday weekends.

Denton is twenty minutes south — college town with a music scene that's quietly become one of the best small-city scenes in Texas. The Texas Motor Speedway is forty minutes. DFW is an hour. This is a base for the lake, not a destination on its own.
